Jamie Carragher makes his first public appearance this afternoon since the shameful spitting incident which has resulted in his suspension from Sky Sports until the end of the season.

The 40-year-old made the front pages of Britain’s tabloid newspapers earlier this month after he was filmed spitting at a Manchester United fan while driving.

Carragher, who has expressed his sincere remorse following the unsavoury incident, spat at the driver, whose 14-year-old daughter was also in the car, after being goaded about Liverpool’s defeat at Old Trafford hours earlier.

Sky Sports have suspended Carragher, who is widely regarded as one of the best pundits on TV right now, until the end of the current campaign.

It remains unclear whether or not he will be able to continue in his lucrative role next season.

The former Liverpool defender has been keeping a low profile over the past couple of weeks as the media storm begins to blow over.

However, he accepted the invite to play for Liverpool Legends against Bayern Munich Legends and was named in the starting line-up this afternoon alongside the likes of Xabi Alonso, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen.

Carragher's reply to Neville's message before Legends game

Shortly before kick-off, Carragher posted a photo of the Liverpool squad on Instagram.

This was his first football-related post on the photo-sharing app since ‘the incident’.

His Monday Night Football colleague Gary Neville couldn’t resist leaving a cheeky comment on Carragher’s post.

“You allowed to play?” the former Manchester United captain wrote, alongside an emoji.

Carragher, proving he hasn’t lost his sense of humour following his recent ordeal, replied: “With a mask”.

Brilliant. Nice to see the light-hearted banter is still continuing between the pair, despite Carragher recently admitting these past few weeks have been the hardest of his career.

Carragher has held his hands up and admitted he made a terrible mistake - one that should never have happened.

Surely, as Neville suggested on Twitter earlier this month, the guy should now be allowed to move on from this incident and get on with the rest of his life.
