Ever since Neymar made his record-breaking move to Paris-Saint Germain, rumours have circulated that Real Madrid have been courting the Brazilian superstar.

The forward has been in exceptional form in France with 28 goals and 16 assists in 30 games for the Parisians, but they exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage, ironically at the hands of Real Madrid.

Neymar was injured for the second leg of that battle that was to take place in France and it could have been a different story if the former Barcelona man was playing.

But, that hasn't stopped the rumours from swirling that not only are Real Madrid looking at Neymar as the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo's throne, but Neymar likes the look of it, too.

Considering that PSG paid a world-record £198 million to secure Neymar's services last summer, what kind of fee would Real have to pay to bring him back to La Liga?

One would think that a move to Madrid must be unlikely for Neymar given his previous connections to Barcelona and he would open himself up to ridicule if he chose to go in that direction.

However, former captain and Barcelona legend Carles Puyol believes it would be fine for Neymar to make that move. Still, he conceded the deal is a difficult one to make.

"I think he could join Madrid, yes," he told Brazilian newspaper Estadao. "I don't see any problem with it. He's a professional and it's not that farfetched.

"I think it'll be difficult for him to leave PSG, though, because they spent a lot of money on signing him."

If there is one thing that's for sure, PSG are not hurting for cash. They have no real incentive to sell Neymar unless the Brazilian star kicks up a real fuss to get his way, and even then, PSG hold all the cards.

At 26-years-old, this would be the prime time for Neymar to make a move to Madrid and indeed, challenge for the Ballon d'Or awards he reportedly covets.

But would he be allowed to and what would Madrid have to pay? It's certainly a plausible idea; Real are no strangers to spending world-record fees.
