Earlier this month on March 16, WWE returned to the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The company has a great history with the venue - and it even hosted WrestleMania XX back in 2004, but recently they've only made a handful of appearances there.

Last week though, WWE was only in town for a house show as the road to WrestleMania continued.

Even though the return to MSG wasn't televised, the show featured a number of huge events.

Two titles were defended on the night - with Brock Lesnar taking on Kane and Braun Strowman in the main event, while The Bar also put their Raw tag-team championships on the line.

There were also a number of Smackdown Live superstars on the show too, as AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura teamed up against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

Nikki Bella also made a return to action for the first time since appearing in the Women's Royal Rumble match back in January.

She teamed up with fiancee John Cena in a mixed-tag match, taking on Elias and Sonya Deville.

The couple, who were performing together for the first time since they became engaged, managed to pick up the victory.

Interestingly though, it wasn't actually Deville who was originally advertised as being Elias's partner against Cena and Nikki.

Instead, Bayley was supposed to be the one "Walking with Elias", but was replaced by one-third of the Absolution trio.

And according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, per Cageside Seats, the decision to take Bayley out of the match may be a hint about her future.

The Observer explains that she was taken out of the match because she has not turned heel yet.

The key word there, of course, is yet. The WWE has a long-term plan to turn "The Hugger" into a heel, but the turn is not going as quickly as planned.

Even while she appears to be turning against Sasha Banks in her latest storyline, most fans believe her behavior is just a swerve - and that it will be The Boss who becomes bad.

But if the original MSG booking is anything to go by, WWE wants Bayley to become a heel and they could perhaps even do it before WrestleMania on April 8.
