The UFC is finally closing in on a deal that will put welterweight standout Darren Till back in the Octagon.Till comes off of a major win back in October in which he made quick work of longtime UFC veteran and fan favorite Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. The Englishmen showcased some nice striking and dismantled Cerrone late in the first round. He is currently undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career with only one draw on his record, which occurred against Nicolas Dalby back in 2015.The UFC has desperately been working to get the 25-year-old back in the cage to capitalize off his earned stardom from the Cowboy win. After the win Till expressed interest in fighting top contender Stephen Thompson.Thompson's father, however, didn't like that match-up and immediately shot the possibility down. He preferred to "fight forward" instead. In a recent interview Till said that he wants to fight Thompson because he feels he can knock him out and "devastate his life."It looks like Till may get that opportunity, as BJ Penn.com's Chris Taylor reports that Thompson has agreed to fight the Englishman in the main event of UFC Liverpool in May.MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani confirmed the fight is close, however, maintained it wasn't yet a done deal:

Thompson's last fight saw him take home a unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal back in November at UFC 217. Previously Thompson had challenged for the 170-pound title in back-to-back fights with Tyron Woodley.

The first fight ended in a Majority Draw while the second ended with Woodley taking the Majority Decision. Now "Wonderboy" is hoping to get right back into the title picture.

A fight between Thompson and Till is a bout MMA fans would love to see, and there's a shot that the winner could be competing for the title next. We'll keep you updated on when the UFC makes the fight official.

What are your thoughts on Till possibly fighting Stephen Thompson in Liverpool for his first fight back after beating Cowboy Cerrone? How do you think Till matches up with a striker the calibre of Thompson? And do you think that Till would get an immediate title shot if he's able to pull off the upset over "The Wonderboy?"
