Yoel Romero has earned his shot at the UFC middleweight title by defeating former champion Luke Rockhold several weeks ago at UFC 221.

Romero stepped in for an injured Robert Whittaker, who was originally scheduled to defend his title against Rockhold in the main event, however, "Bobby Knuckles" was hospitalized with a terrible illness that had him in a bad condition.

Unfortunately, Romero didn't make weight for the fight and was ineligible to win the interim UFC middleweight title that was on the line.

Romero wound up winning the fight in the third round with a vicious knockout over the Californian. Whittaker, who defeated Romero last year for the interim middleweight title, was recently interviewed by Submission Radio to get his thoughts on the rematch.

They will collide once again at UFC 225 on June 9th with the undisputed 185-pound crown on the line. Whittaker said that if Romero doesn't make weight for their title bout then he won't agree to fight him the way Rockhold did (quotes via Bloody Elbow):

“I don’t think Rockhold should have taken that fight. He had nothing to gain from it once Romero didn’t make weight,” Whittaker told Submission Radio.

“But it is what it is. He’s a fighter first and foremost, he still fought, he saved the card and props to him.

“I don’t understand anyone who takes fights when their opponent doesn’t make weight,” he continued.

“It’s like, if you rock up at 87 kilos, which is what Romero did – It was like 86 kilos or something like that – then why don’t I rock up at 95 (kgs)?

"What’s the difference? We’re both not making weight, we’re both not professional enough to do it, you know?

“And the weight cut is directly influential to the fight itself. I think not making weight is the most unprofessional thing you can do.

"It’s as bad as just not showing up for the fight itself,” he said. “So, if you don’t make weight, I’m not fighting you.

"I’ll give the shot to someone else who can make the weight, who can do their freaking job.”

What are your thoughts on Whittaker saying that he won't fight Yoel Romero for the UFC middleweight title if he doesn't make weight? Do you think the Cuban powerhouse will make weight for his championship fight with "The Reaper?" And who would you like to see step in for Romero if he isn't able to make the weight?
