The main event of NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia, back in January saw Andrade "Cien" Almas put his NXT Championship on the line against Johnny Gargano.

After a brutal match, which was rated five-stars by Dave Meltzer, it was Almas who pinned his challenger, defending his title.

But things got even worse for Gargano after the battle, as his former DIY tag-team partner Tommaso Ciampa returned from injury to beat Gargano down with a crutch as the show ended.

But that was barely even the start of what has become one of the best feuds in WWE.

Wanting some retribution for his beatdown, Gargano called out Ciampa following his TakeOver loss.

But instead it was Almas who answered his call and another title match was made, this time with an added stipulation. If Gargano lost, he would leave NXT.

And that’s exactly what happened. During the final moments of the clash, with the referee on the floor, Ciampa took his opportunity to enter the ring and attack Gargano once again, allowing Almas to pick up the win.

Just like that, Gargano was gone from NXT. Unsurprisingly, Ciampa has been bragging about his actions on social media ever since - and the heel heat he’s been getting is unmatched in WWE today.

Ciampa had actually been unable to address the WWE Universe in-ring over the last few weeks because he’s been refusing to talk over the boos - in fact, he wants complete silence before opening his mouth.

That didn’t happen until last Wednesday, when he finally broke his silence, exclaiming that Gargano will never return because of him, before walking back up the ramp.

He couldn’t resist ripping up a few crowd signs as he went - but made a big mistake doing so.

Gargano had actually managed to sneak into the arena wearing a mask and as Ciampa was leaving, he picked a perfect moment to jump from the crowd and exert some revenge, before being dragged out by security.

That exchange has led to rumours that the pair will face-off in a non-sanctioned match at the TakeOver: New Orleans - before Gargano is inevitably called up to the main roster.

And with just over two weeks until the event, a "WWE exclusive" video from this weekend shows Gargano might struggle to wait that long to get his hands on the man who turned on him.

The video shows Gargano waiting around in the WWE Performance Centre car park, ready for Ciampa's arrival.

As he sees the car pull in, he runs up to confront Ciampa, but can't stop him from getting away just in time.

The feud between the pair has managed to captivate almost the entire WWE Universe - and like Gargano, fans can't wait to see him finally get his hands on Ciampa at TakeOver.
