Arsenal are preparing for life without William Gallas with a bid for Yoann Gourcuff, as Italian side Roma will offer the French defender a way out of North London, according to reports.
Gallas, 32, looks to have missed the deadline set by the Gunners to sign a new one-year contract with the centre-back wanting the security of a two-year deal.
Arsene Wenger has been linked with a number of replacements recently including Lorient’s Laurent Koscielny and Dynamo Kiev’s Pape Diakhate as well as former youngster Matthew Upson from West Ham United.
Meanwhile Arsenal will go head to head with French side Olympique Lyonnais for the signature of Bordeaux winger Yoann Gourcuff.
Wenger, not renowned for splashing the cash, will need to spend in order to acquire Gourcuff as Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted he will pay as much as it takes to lure him to the former Ligue 1 champions.
Aulas told L’Equipe “I saw his contract and he has a get-out clause of up to 25 million Euros (£21 million). If he wants to leave in August, we will break the bank."
