Arsenal have been joined by Ligue 1 giants Lyon in the race for French midfielder Yoann Gourcuff.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has been in fantastic form for club side Bordeaux, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought be preparing a bid should current captain Cesc Fabregas make his anticipate move to Barcelona.

However, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Les Gones are interested in the former AC Milan player as the transfer window opens in England.

"We will sign a strong midfielder which will cost between 15 – 20 million Euros. It could be him," Aulas told French national paper L'Equipe.

"For Gourcuff, I saw his contract and he has a get-out clause of up to 25 million Euros. If he wants to leave in August, we will break the bank."

The Gunners have already landed Marouane Chamakh from the Stade Chaban Delmas this summer, and could use this previous relationship with the Champions League quarter-finalists to help in any deal for Gourcuff.

The French international has 17 caps for Les Bleus thus far, and his stock could rise on the back of some World Cup performances in South Africa. Les Girondins paid €15 million for his services after a season-long loan in 2009, and any fee agreed between two parties would be in excess of that figure.
