Manager Dario Gradi has revealed Crewe are in talks with a centre-back over a possible move.

The 68-year-old has been on the lookout for a new defender since deciding not to offer former Liverpool trainee Danny O`Donnell a new deal.

And it seems his efforts to sign a replacement are about to be rewarded.

"We have spoken to a centre-half and talks went well," Gradi told the club`s official website. "We are just waiting to hear back from him now."

Gradi added: "He was very impressed with the place and we will have to wait and see what he decided. There will be a fee involved but we do not see that as a main problem.

"It would not be an absolute disaster if we could not find a centre-back, it would just mean the ones we have here would have to do better than they did last season."
