Huddersfield have completed the signing of Iceland international Joey Gudjonsson on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old midfielder, whose contract at Burnley expired at the end of the season, has signed a two-year contract.

Terriers manager Lee Clark said: "Joey is very energetic and plays with a real intensity. He's a box-to-box player who is very competitive.

"He can play at the level we want to reach and has great experience of both Premiership and Championship football in this country. That experience is vital, but he also still has the desire to be successful."

He added: "I know we've beaten Championship clubs to his signature, which shows that word is getting around about how ambitious we are and that we're doing things in the right way. It's a bit of a coup that we haven't had to pay a transfer fee for a lad of his quality too."

Gudjonsson brings a wealth of experience having played in the top divisions across five European countries. His previous clubs include Dutch Eredivisie sides MVV, RKC Waalwijk and AZ Alkmaar, Spanish La Liga side Real Betis and Aston Villa, Wolves, Burnley and Leicester.
