Arsenal have joined the race to sign Chelsea winger Joe Cole but have dismissed rumours that he has already agreed to join the North London club.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all been linked with Cole while his former club West Ham United have confirmed they told him to ‘name his price’ before being rejected.

The Gunners were reported to have struck a deal which would see Cole move across London on a free transfer, which would have been their second bosman signing this summer.

The claims, which came in the wake of Cole’s former manager Harry Redknapp believing a deal had already been done, have been refuted by Arsenal but Arsene Wenger is apparently interested.

Yesterday, Redknapp said: “I’ve got a feeling that he’s already agreed a deal with someone, and it’s not Tottenham.

“I’m not saying that if he hadn’t agreed a deal with someone and he was available, we wouldn’t be interested. I’m a big fan of Joe’s, but the feedback we’ve had is that he might well have already done something.”

Cole, from Islington, North London, would be somewhat of a bargain for the Gunners and, as there would be no transfer fee involved, the Emirates side would be prepared to meet his high wage demands.
