Tottenham Hotspur have made a £20 million move for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan, according to several reports.
Spurs are currently looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their first ever Champions League campaign and are keen on Forlan, who is a proven goalscorer in European competitions.
Atletico are thought to want a sum nearer the £30 million mark for the former Manchester United man, who fired them to Europa League victory last month.
The Uruguayan marksman’s agent, Daniel Bolotnicoff said: “Forlan is a player who a lot of people are interested about in the European market. Each of the seasons many clubs show interest in him.
“This is not the first time that a Premier League club have wanted to try and buy him back. At the moment, though, he is concentrating on the World Cup finals.”
Spurs are keen to offload Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko in order to make room for a new striker to partner Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch.
French champions Marseille had shown interest in Forlan previously but are said to have baulked at his £60,000 per week wage demands.
