City plan double Barca raid after Maicon snub

Manchester City will turn their attention to Barcelona right-back Daniel Alves after Brazil team mate Maicon rejected a move to Eastlands.

Man City’s representatives have also been in talks with Barca midfielder Yaya Toure, who claims to have done a deal with an unnamed Premier League club already.

Garry Cook, City’s chief executive, is thought to have sounded Barca’s representatives out about a deal for former Sevilla ace Alves.

Alves still has two years to run on his contract at Camp Nou but City have reportedly told the Catalans to name their price as they brace themselves for a bid from Tottenham for Micah Richards.

Yesterday Maicon’s agent claimed City were in the running for Maicon’s signature but the Inter Milan player admitted he would rather join Real Madrid.

Maicon said: “I want to play for Madrid because it would be a great opportunity in my career. I'm going to say it very clearly so there is no misunderstanding: I want to play with Madrid, I don't want to go to Manchester City.

"I have a great relationship with Jose Mourinho and it would be nice to be able to play under him again. We have won a lot of things together at Inter and I hope we can repeat it."
