Preston midfielder Chris Sedgwick has agreed a two-year deal with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 30-year-old, who worked under Owls boss Alan Irvine at Deepdale, is out of contract with the Lancashire club and will officially join Wednesday on July 1.

Sedgwick has started over 400 games in a career that has taken in Preston and Rotherham, and Irvine said. "Chris is a player I know very well from my time at Preston. I know him as a player and a professional and he has all the right attributes I am looking for."

Irvine continued: "He is very experienced, very fit, has the strength of character to play at Hillsborough and has a tremendous work ethic.

"He is also a Sheffield Wednesday supporter and really wants to play for this club. I enjoyed working with him at Preston and I am looking forward to working with him again with Sheffield Wednesday."
