It’s just a matter of time before the former WWE Champion signs with the sports entertainment company.

The latest update on his future with the WWE has surfaced.

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio understands how to get fans of sports entertainment talking.

Mysterio has had a lot of success while competing under the WWE banner, but you have to keep in mind that his exit from the company was not the greatest.

If you recall, WWE held up his contract and basically froze it due to Mysterio being out of action with injuries.

He was with the company for much longer than his contract originally called for. Mysterio is best known for his appearances with ECW, WCW, and WWE between 1995 and 2015.

He had a decorated career in his professional wrestling career as he has won WWE's World Heavyweight Title, the WWE Title, WWE Cruiserweight Title, WCW World Tag Team Title, WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Title, WWC World Junior Heavyweight Title, WWE Tag Team Title, and WWE Intercontinental Title.

As seen at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wells Fargo Center on the WWE Network, Shinsuke Nakamura won the 2018 Royal Rumble Match by beating out John Cena, Finn Balor, and Roman Reigns in the final four. Mysterio made a surprise appearance in the match.

PWinsider.com was the first to report that Mysterio is scheduled to appear at the upcoming Greatest Royal Rumble event.

There’s no word yet on if he will be wrestling at the show due to him dealing with a torn bicep.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the Mysterio has not agreed to terms for a new WWE contract as of this week but both sides are still negotiating a deal.

According to the report, this appearance in Saudi Arabia is a one-shot deal. It's still expected that Rey will sign with WWE and that he’ll likely return to TV later this year.

The WWE Greatest Royal Rumble event takes place on Friday, April 27, 2018 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah International Stadium and will air on the WWE Network with a special start time of 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT with the event airing one hour later. Both Raw and SmackDown brands will be featured.
