With the help of West Bromwich Albion, Manchester City are Premier League champions.

The Baggies haven’t had much to celebrate this season, and were expected to go down at Manchester United on Sunday without much of a fight.

But they secured a memorable 1-0 victory that handed the title to Pep Guardiola’s City.

It’s the third time in seven seasons that the Citizens have been champions and, while this season missed the fascinating ending that saw them triumph in 2011-12, it was a thrilling campaign nonetheless.

Man City have been utterly brilliant this season and Chelsea’s record of 95 points in a single points in a campaign is there for the taking.

So too is the Blues’ record of 103 goals in a season, which they set in 2009-10. Guardiola’s side have found the net 93 times and still have five matches to play.

Whether Guardiola stays at the Etihad Stadium long enough to create a dynasty remains to be seen. But a serious message has been sent to the rest of the top four this season.

Shearer's worried for top four

And with Guardiola set to be handed a hefty transfer warchest once again the summer, Alan Shearer is concerned for Man United and co.

Writing in his column for The Sun, Shearer admitted that this could be a sustained period of success for the new champions.

“You go through all of City’s team and he has improved every player,” Shearer said. “They are all playing the way Pep wants them to play.

“The worrying thing for all the other clubs now is that City could be around for a long, long time.

“They are going to be tough to knock off their perch because they are going to improve again in the summer, spending on one or two big hitters to try to win the Champions League.

“This season, they could still go on and break a whole host of records and, knowing Pep, he will not let them step off the gas.”

Shearer’s right. City will come back even stronger next season.

It's down to Man United, Liverpool and the rest of England's top clubs to find an answer.
