Both Manchester sides have been boosted in their chase to sign Palermo pair Simon Kjaer and Edison Cavani after Palermo’s president admitted they will leave this summer.

United have been chasing Denmark centre-back Kjaer as they prepare for Nemanja Vidic to leave for Real Madrid this summer.

Meanwhile, City have turned their attention to signing a striker as they believe they have all but wrapped up deals for Yaya Toure and David Silva.

Cavani is top of Roberto Mancini’s transfer wish list as he looks to bolster his attacking options, with the probability of Roque Santa Cruz and Robinho all moving on.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini told Tuttomercatoweb: “When certain offers arrive, a player must leave.

“We are negotiating for Kjaer. I must talk to him to understand his intentions but he has an important decision [to make]. We also must find somebody to replace him.

“Cavani? He is on the market because he wants to be. We won’t keep players that want to leave. In any case, I think that both of them will finally quit our club,” he added.
