New Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is lining up a £20 million offer for Liverpool, and England captain Steven Gerrard, according to reports.

Liverpool have slapped a £35 million valuation on Gerrard's head but Real are confident the Anfield club's financial state will mean they can get him on the cheap, according to the Metro.

Argentina midfielder Angel Di Maria has already confirmed he will move to the Bernabeu this summer and could be followed by Gerrard.

Roy Hodgson is expected to be announced as Liverpool manager on Thursday and will want to keep hold of his star assets and build on them for next season.

Fernando Torres has been linked with Chelsea and Inter Milan recently and Liverpool's American owners could be tempted into selling those two players in order to pledge Hodgson the funds he is demanding.
