New Liverpool boss to replace Masch with former Gunner

Published Add your comment

Roy Hodgson has been unveiled as Liverpool manager today and has already drawn up a list of targets to bring Champions League football back to Anfield, according to reports.

Hodgson, who transformed Fulham’s fortunes and took them from the brink of relegation to Europa League finalists, is set to be handed an initial £15 million transfer budget, according to the Daily Mail.

Furthermore Yossi Benayoun is set to complete a £6 million move to Chelsea while inter Milan are willing to pay up to £25 million for Javier Mascherano, which would boost his transfer kitty more.

If Mascherano leaves, Hodgson will replace him with former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva, who would cost a considerable amount less than the Argentina captain would bring in.

Rafael van der Vaart is also high on Benitez’s wish list and he is also considering raiding Fulham for Arsenal target Brede Hangeland and bringing Cottagers skipper Danny Murphy back to Merseyside.

Hangeland has been loyal to Fulham over the last season, rejecting Arsene Wenger’s overtures but would be tempted to follow his former boss to Anfield while van der Vaart could be deemed as surplus to requirements by new Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
