Huddersfield have completed the signing of defender Jamie McCombe from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

The 6ft 5in 27-year-old, who had a year remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate, has signed a three-year deal and becomes Terriers manager Lee Clark's fifth summer signing.

McCombe, whose younger brother John started out as a trainee at Huddersfield, said: "Obviously I'm originally from up here and I know all about Huddersfield - it's a great club with big potential and aspirations. I think this club will go on to bigger and better things."

He added: "I've played against Huddersfield a few times. On a couple of occasions I came up against my brother when he was in the Town team. At that time there were real shared loyalties in the McCombe household!

"I wouldn't be coming to Huddersfield if I didn't think they would make it to the Championship soon. It's not a quick move nearer to home for me. I've moved to a club with the potential to get back to where I want to be."

McCombe worked his way through the youth ranks at Scunthorpe and made his first-team debut under manager Brian Laws in 2001. He moved on to Lincoln in 2004 and was signed by Bristol City in May 2006.
