Cut price Portugal star set for United and Arsenal transfer tug-of-war

Manchester United and Arsenal are set to clash over the signing of Porto star Raul Meireles, according to reports in the Spanish media.

Real Madrid had been expected to snap up the 27-year-old, who has a £25 million release clause, but Spanish newspaper Marca has indicates he would prefer a move to the Premier League.

Despite the clause in his contract, Meireles could be available for as little as £10 million, as he desires to leave Porto and test himself on a bigger stage.

The future of Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas is still up in the air and Meireles could be a good alternative at the heart of Arsene Wenger’s defence.

United have reportedly touted Anderson around to a few teams on the continent and could even offer the Brazilian as bait to land the former Boavista player.

Anderson signed for United from Porto three years but has yet to make a significant impact at Old Trafford and has been linked with Marseille recently.
