Burton defender Aaron Webster is a transfer target for npower League Two rivals Crewe, according to Albion boss Paul Peschisolido.
The 29-year-old was challenged to work on his fitness over the summer and has now been rewarded with the offer of a contract extension. However he is also wanted by Crewe and Peschisolido is keeping his fingers crossed that the player will stay at the Pirelli Stadium.
"I' ve said all along and I have told him that he could be, potentially, the best player in the league. He's got fantastic ability and what has held him back has been himself," Peschisolido told Burton's official club website.
"He's taken what I've said on board, worked his socks off all summer and come back extremely fit."
He added: "Aaron could be a huge asset so I don't want to lose him, but what I wanted to see was that hunger and I certainly got that. We have sat down again and maybe tweaked the contract details a little bit and I am hoping that he comes back and says yes to me."
Peschisolido added: "It seems Crewe have been interested all along, so we'll just have to see what happens."
