Coventry midfielder Gary Deegan faces three to four months on the sidelines after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation.
The 22-year-old had been making good progress in his recovery from an ankle operation, but has now sustained a stress fracture of the ankle, to leave manager Aidy Boothroyd feeling frustrated ahead of the new season.
Boothroyd told the club's official website: "I am disappointed for Gary as I was looking forward to him getting a good pre-season like the rest of the lads."
He added: "But we are looking at three or four months out. He will be desperate to get back and we will have to manage that, but he will be like having a new signing when he returns."
