Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid is due to see a specialist after his hopes of returning from injury were dealt a setback.
The 27-year-old Irishman did not join his team-mates as they flew out for the club's pre-season training camp on the Algarve on Monday after picking up an Achilles problem.
However, Reid, who missed much of the second half of last season through injury, is expected to join the rest of the party in Portugal on Tuesday after sitting out Saturday's 1-0 friendly win at Darlington.
Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Lee Cattermole, 22, was being assessed after he limped out of the game with a groin strain.
