Barnsley midfielder Hugo Colace has signed a new two-year deal at Oakwell.

The 26-year-old Tykes Player of the Year has finally ended speculation over his future by committing himself to the club until the summer of 2012, turning down other offers in England, Mexico, Italy and Russia.

Barnsley manager Mark Robins said: "The contract has always been on the table and my hope was that he would eventually re-sign for us."

He added: "It's an important signing and the club beat off serious competition for his services from clubs in Britain and around the world.

"For Hugo it was important to find out what other options were out there. With so much interest in him he needed to take time to think about it, as anyone would.

"The important thing is that he has come back to us and signed the contract that was on offer. He could have secured more financial rewards by going elsewhere, but he believes in what we are doing at Barnsley Football Club and he couldn't turn his back on the supporters that gave him last season's Player of the Year award."
