Southend chairman Ron Martin has been elected to the Football League's board.

Martin served on the League's board during Southend's previous stint in League Two between 1998 and 2005.

"I have served previously on the Football League board as a representative for League Two and I was keen to stand again," Martin told the club's official website. "I would like to continue to influence the future of the game, especially during these challenging economic times as the difference between Championship and League One and League Two continues to grow."

He added: "By being involved at board level I can represent the interests of League Two clubs and Southend."
