Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua’s proposed move to Fiorentina could collapse, according to the Italian side’s sporting director.

Insua has seemed destined to move to Florence, with Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson claiming he is now looking for the Argentine’s replacement.

Now, however, the Serie A club have revealed they may not be able to afford the players’ wages.

Pantaleo Corvino told Quotidianopuglia.it: “We have an agreement with the English club, but we have to find an understanding with the player in terms of wages.

“We cannot guarantee him the figures that he gets at Liverpool,” he added.

A host of players have been linked with the Anfield club as replacements for both Insua and Fabio Aurelio, who has been released by the club.

Carlos Salcido is the latest left-back to be rumoured for Anfield as well as Wigan’s Maynor Figueroa but, if Insua’s move collapses, they will be back to the drawing board.
