The agent of German youngster Serdar Tasci has admitted his client admires Arsenal, fuelling speculation he is on the verge of a move to the Emirates.
The Gunners were linked with international team mate Per Mertesacker yesterday but Tasci is keen to win a move to the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger has now singled out the 23-year-old as his number one target at centre back and the club have held talks with Stuttgart.
The Bundesliga side’s valuation my be a sticking point, though, as Tasci’s contract still has four years to run and includes an £18.5 million buy-out clause.
Uli Ferber told The Sun: “Serdar admires English football and has huge respect for Arsenal.”
The North London side have already brought in Laurent Koscielny from St Etienne at play alongside Thomas Vermaelen at the heart of their defence.
However, Wenger wants to bring in one or two more after losing William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and Sol Campbell on free transfers as well as selling Philippe Senderos to Fulham.
With Johann Djourou injured, they are running dangerously short on defender, with young Norwegian Harvard Nordveit in line to be called up to the first team squad.
