Graham Turner has fought off competition from former club Hereford to land Lionel Ainsworth for an undisclosed fee from Huddersfield.

The winger enjoyed two separate spells under Turner at Edgar Street and new Bulls boss Simon Davey had made no secret of his desire to take him back to the club. But Turner has seen his own lengthy chase pay off as Ainsworth on Monday morning penned a two-year deal at the Greenhous Meadow.

And the delighted Shrews boss told Town's official website: "We have been working on this for five weeks and it is good to have finally brought it to a positive conclusion. We were initially trying to get it as a loan move but have finally agreed a transfer."

He added: "I've worked with Lionel in two spells at Hereford and he did exceptionally well during that time.

"He has a lot of pace and the ability to create opportunities for others and for himself."
