Arsenal are reportedly close to a deal for Emir Spahić after the player held successful talks with the club.
The Bosnian international helped French side Montpellier to an impressive fifth place finish last season, and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the 29-year-old centre back.
Spahić began his career with Zagreb in 2001, and moved to Ligue 1 after stints with three Russian clubs over a five year period between 2004-2009.
Captain of his country during their World Cup qualifying campaign, Spahić spoke to Bosnian outlet SC Sport about negotiations with the Gunners.
"The most important thing is that so far the negotiations go as planned and that the transfer could be completed soon," said Spahić.
"Arsenal is a great club, I’m an admirer of Arsene Wenger and I hope that Montpellier will cooperate.”
Wenger has been linked with a string of defenders this summer after the exits of Sol Campbell, Mikael Silvestre and William Gallas from the Emirates.
Laurent Koscielny impressed during the recent Emirates Cup tournament alongside Thomas Vermaelen, and the addition of Spahić would provide depth in a position that seemed to be a problem area in north London a few weeks back.
