Liverpool and Arsenal set to lose out to City for Barca wonderkid

Manchester City are set to beat Liverpool and Arsenal to the signing of Barcelona youngster Gai Assulin – and, this time, it is not a mega-money move.

The 19-year-old has recently been released by the Catalan club and has seen a wave of interest from top clubs around Europe – most pertinently in the Premier League.

Arsenal have been heavily linked to his signature, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and even Tottenham also interested.

The attacking midfielder is currently the youngest ever player to play for Israel and made his first team debut at the age of just 16 during a cup game.

And with the vast sums of money being thrown around by City this summer, the future of their club could be built on cheap younger signings.

Assulin’s release clause at Barca was around £34 million but his contract was cancelled so he could seek more first team football elsewhere.

City would be willing to loan him out for a couple of years in order for him to build up that experience and come back raring to go in the first team.
