Who’s going to step up to the plate in the Villa goalscoring stakes?

The thoughts of Aston Villa fans as the season draws nearer and nearer always tend to lean towards goals.

Who will help Aston Villa by supplying goals? There is certainly a huge demand for them. Villa fans are often treated to spectacular periods of football with some remarkable goals but always without a doubt there are periods of dry spells where the goals just don’t come.

With strikers such as John Carew and Emile Heskey scoring in the pre-season, and even the unlikeliest of players in Steve Sidwell the future most certainly looks bright.

And with Aston Villa’s strong English links and the associated players only going from strength to strength - even after a poor showing in the World Cup by an England team which included James Milner - the likes of Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Stephen Warnock and Stuart Downing will be eager to prove themselves amongst the world’s elite players in the Premier League.

Agbonlahor himself has been touted as Aston Villa’s goal machine over the summer and many expect him to deliver and become their much needed 20-plus goal scorer.

The Birmingham-born Aston Villa fan has a habit of scoring when the goals are really needed, and has only failed to score against local rivals Birmingham City once, in the last meeting at Villa Park.
