Arsenal have been urged to sign German international Serdar Tasci by a player source.

The Stuttgart defender has has been on the radar of a string of Premier League clubs this summer, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger continuously linked with a move for the 23-year-old.

North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have also been mooted as potential suitors, and the source confirmed that Harry Redknapp's side were the only club to have officially shown interest.

However, the player reportedly has his heart set on a move to the Gunners and would only consider leaving his long-term contract at the Robert-Schlienz-Stadion for a chance under Wenger at the Emirates stadium.

"He has a long term contract but if Arsenal made an offer he would consider it," a source close to the player told

"They are a great club wtih a great manager, but there is no contact at the moment. Tottenham have shown interest, but not Arsenal."

A player of Turkish descent, Tascii has represented Germany at several junior levels before making his senior debut in 2008 against Belgium. His versatility was one of the key factors in his call-up to Joachim Loew's World Cup squad, although Tasci didn't make an appearance in South Africa.
