Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-M’Biwa with a view to a potential summer move.

The versatile 21-year-old can play in any position across the defence, and Arsenal legend and chief scout in France Gilles Grimandi travelled to the Stade de la Mosson to watch the player feature in his side's 1-0 Ligue 1 victory over Bordeaux.

Sport.co.uk also reports that Grimandi met with another Gunners target, Emir Spahic. The Bosnian skipper claimed that a move to the north London club was in the pipeline should Montpellier cooperate in the potential deal.

“The most important thing is that so far the negotiations go as planned and that the transfer could be completed soon," said Spahic.

Yanga-M’Biwa would fit the mould of young talent moving to the Emirates, with the youngster earning five caps for the Les Bleus U21 side after making his debut against Malta.

With over 100 appearances for the French side, Yanga-M’Biwa doesn't lack senior experience at domestic level and is thought to have impressed the watching French scout.

A regular who usually plays in the right back position, Yanga-M’Biwa was a mainstay during HSC's fifth place finish in the top flight following promotion from the second tier the previous season.
