Martin Gritton and Guy Branston are hoping to shake off their respective injuries ahead of Torquay's home game against Bradford.
Gritton has missed the Gulls' opening two fixtures with a gashed knee and faces a fitness test on Friday.
If he fails to make the squad, manager Paul Buckle is expected to keep faith with Elliot Benyon and Billy Kee in attack.
Veteran centre-half Branston is also doubtful after he was forced off in last weekend's victory at Lincoln.
Branston has rested for most of the week and a decision on his participation will also be made on Friday, with Kieran Charnock in line to deputise if necessary.
United have no further injury worries as they look to maintain their 100% start to the npower League Two season.
Bradford defender Steve Williams is expected to return to the squad for the clash at Torquay.
Centre-half Williams was dropped for disciplinary reasons last week but could return to the starting line-up after an impressive display in the Carling Cup win over Nottingham Forest.
Manager Peter Taylor will be boosted by the return of striker Jake Speight, who missed the 1-0 home win over Stevenage due to a knee injury, while midfielder Michael Flynn returned to the bench last week after a back problem and could play a bigger role.
Speight is expected to start on the substitutes' bench.
Defender Simon Ramsden remains doubtful due to the calf strain which forced him to miss last week but Taylor has no other new injury or suspension problems.
Leon Osborne (groin) and Luke Dean (broken leg) remain long-term absentees.
