Crewe manager Dario Gradi was understandably pleased with his side's performance as they trounced Barnet 7-0 at the Alexandra Stadium.

First half goals from Shaun Miller and Clayton Donaldson were followed up in the second half by Joel Grant, David Artell, Miller, Donaldson and Ajay Leitch-Smith.

Gradi said: "I knew from last season I wasn't everyone's cup of tea and we hadn't done very well. We've improved the team with slight changes and the players are with me, and I'm with them. That's more important than any of us being with the supporters. We have to be together - and we are. "

He added: "If we can steer reasonably clear of injuries then we have a chance of doing something this season.

"I wasn't desperate after two games but the longer we went without winning the more agitated supporters were going to be. It is important for the supporters to be behind the players and that's two good performances we've given them at home now. We've got to try and keep on doing that.

"When you win 7-0 all you can do is praise the players. It's not often I'm sitting there with 20 minutes to go thinking the game is over.

"I couldn't see them scoring and we probably caught Barnet on a bad day - some of the goals were a bit simple. All the goals pleased me but not conceding was the most pleasing thing."

Barnet boss Mark Stimson vented his anger after the humiliating defeat and insisted his players would go some way to repay the travelling fans.

He fumed: "I am more than shell-shocked. I am very disappointed - that was nowhere near what we expected and I didn't see it coming.

"Apologies to the supporters who travelled a long way here and spent a lot of money to get here. I've told the players they have to put some money back in their (fans) pockets. That was not acceptable at all, and we'll make some sacrifices like they do.
