Calve poised for Blades move

Sheffield United are set to complete the signing of French full-back Jean Calve on a season-long loan from Nancy.

Calve was at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday to watch his prospective new club lose 1-0 to Middlesbrough in Gary Speed's first game as manager.

And in his post-match press conference, Speed revealed: "Jean will finish his medical on Monday and then hopefully sign subject to that, so hopefully he'll be training with us on Tuesday."

Calve impressed during a trial spell at Bramall Lane this summer and Speed has high hopes for the 26-year-old.

"Hopefully Jean will give us an extra dimension down the right-hand side," added the Blades boss. "Nyron (Nosworthy) played right-back today (Sunday) and did ever so well for us, but he's naturally a centre-half."
