A host of Premier League clubs have made offers for Liverpool target David Trezeguet and West Ham are the team in pole position, according to the Mirror.
Trezeguet’s agent admitted Liverpool had made an enquiry for the Juventus ace but had competition from Spanish sides Real Zaragoza and Hercules.
Now the Hammers’ ambitious chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold have reportedly made an offer, as well as Aston Villa and West Brom.
West Ham have already made high-profile attempts to lure David Beckham and Thierry Henry to the Boleyn Ground, as the former Birmingham owners look to find their new Christophe Dugarry.
Sullivan and Gold brought Trezeguet’s compatriot to St Andrews seven years ago, initially on loan, and he played a huge part in keeping the Blues in the Premier League with five goals in 15 games.
The France ace, who retired from international football two years ago, is expected to make a final decision by the end of the week.
