Aldershot Town midfielder John Halls attempted to prove his full match fitness in a friendly against Bristol City on Tuesday.

Halls, 28, who has had a stop-start last year, completed 90 minutes in a 4-1 defeat to the Robins.

His inclusion at the end of last season after a long lay-off helped push the Shots into a sixth place finish, so fans at the EBB Stadium will be heartened to hear he is fighting for a place in the team so early in the season, after yet another injury set-back.

Assistant manager Gary Owers, speaking to the club's official website, enthused: "This was a major boost for the club.

"Not only did John play but the fact that he completed the match was a crucial plus point. In addition to that I thought he was our best player.

"He will be delighted with the progress that he has made and it all bodes well for the coming weeks too."
