Man United in shock move for former Arsenal graduate

Manchester United are readying a move for Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba and will use Tom Cleverley as bait, according to reports in Lancashire.

United are currently looking for a holding midfielder, after reviving their interest in Belgian ace Steven Defour.

Wanderers are one of many clubs keen to take Cleverley on loan after he impressed with Watford last year and will insist that be put into the deal.

As well as Cleverley, Muamba will cost United around £9 million after the former Arsenal youth academy graduate signed a new four-year contract earlier this month.

The 22-year-old has impressed for the England under 21 side since becoming a regular and has become a mainstay in the Trotters’ midfield.

Sir Alex Ferguson will have one last crack at the transfer market and make a central midfielder his fourth signing of the summer because he has concerns over Owen Hargreaves’ long-term future and whether Michael Carrick is good enough.
