Aldershot forward Damian Spencer is pushing for a starting role against Northampton.

Former Cheltenham man Spencer came off the bench to score the equaliser in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Stevenage and then capped a rare start with a goal in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Oxford.

Manager Kevin Dillon is loathe to stray from his tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formula but could partner Marvin Morgan with Spencer against the Cobblers.

Defender Aaron Morris is away with the Wales Under-21 squad so will not feature but Dillon has no other fresh concerns.

Midfielder John Halls came through 81 minutes in midweek on his return to action from a groin injury so will be in contention, while Luke Guttridge will line up against his former side.

Northampton have been hit with an injury crisis.

Striker Tadhg Purcell will miss the rest of the season after he damaged his knee ligaments in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Wycombe while midfielder Ryan Gilligan is set for three months on the sidelines as he undergoes ankle surgery.

Veteran left-back Marcus Hall will also be out for around a month after he pulled his hamstring in the 4-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat at Hartlepool in midweek.

John Johnson is expected to return from a groin injury and he will play at right-back, with Paul Rodgers moving across to fill Hall's vacancy on the left.

Goalkeeper Chris Dunn made his comeback from an ankle injury against Hartlepool and will start so on-loan Spurs youngster Oscar Jansson will be on the bench for the final game of his spell.

Defender Craig Hinton is still missing with knee trouble.
