Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has stressed his desire to return to Anfield in the future.

The 37-year-old German is relatively new to the coaching game and currently plying his trade in League One, but the veteran is aiming high and sets his sights on a comeback with Liverpool.

"It would be nice to go back to Liverpool one day and to work in some capacity, play some part. Obviously to manage them would be a dream come true," Hamann told liverpoolfc.tv.

"When I have my Pro licence, I will see where I am wanted. I would like to stay in this country but you never know."

Hamann is currently working in a player-coach role at MK Dons, mixing his role as a defensive midfielder alongside duties under manager Karl Robinson. Assistant manager John Gorman and former Wolves midfielder Alex Rae are also part of the staff at Stadium:mk.

"I can gain invaluable experience and learn things from Karl, Alex and John every day while I am doing my coaching badges," Hamann continued.

"I want to play this year and then see."
