Tommy Smith has completed his loan switch from Portsmouth to QPR after the Football League rejected his initial deadline-day switch.

The 30-year-old striker has signed a short-term deal until January 1, when the move will become permanent for a fee of around £1.5million.

Smith told the Hoops' official website: "It's nice to be here. It's a stable club with ambition and you can see what they are trying to build here."

He added: "I know I will have to work hard to get into the team because they have started very well. If I was a player in the side I would be expecting to hold onto my place, having not lost. I understand that.

"The manager has told me to bring competition in for places and that's what I intend to do."

The league blocked Smith's original move because they received the paperwork after the deadline had passed.
