Arsenal will reignite their interest in Everton’s Mikel Arteta if skipper Cesc Fabregas leaves the club to join Barcelona, according to Talksport.

The Gunners are known admirers of the Spaniard and have been linked with a move for him in past transfer windows.

However, Arteta signed a five-year contract only last month, meaning his value will be at a premium if Arsenal do make an offer.

It is not certain the move will be made in January, though, as Fabregas has already committed at least this season to the Gunners.

Fabregas came close to a ‘dream’ move to Camp Nou this summer but was convinced to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

It seems somehow inevitable that the 23-year-old will complete a move back to Barca in the near future.

A number of high profile Barcelona players lobbied him to unsettle the Arsenal captain but failed.

And now former Gunners skipper Gilberto Silva has become the latest player to admit Fabregas will join Barca at some point.

“He is a great player and a good guy. I wish him well at Arsenal, but sooner or later he will return to Barcelona,” he said on the eve of his Panathanaikos side’s Champions League game against the Spanish champions.
