Watford striker Liam Henderson has joined Colchester on a short-term loan.

The 20-year-old will link up with the League One side until January as Hornets boss Malky Mackay aims to give the youngster more first-team experience.

"Liam has scored lots of goals for the reserves over the last 18 months and I feel it's time for him to go out and gain valuable experience at league level," Mackay told Watford's official website.

"A similar situation proved very beneficial to Marvin Sordell last season.

"So we think that going to Colchester and working with John Ward will be great for Liam."

Henderson is yet to start a match for the Hornets but has made 21 substitute appearances since making his debut in August 2008.
