Roy Hodgson is set to be busy when the transfer window reopens, if reports are to be believed.
News of the World suggests that Liverpool are planning a January move for Udinese midfielder Gokhan Inler – while Lucas Leiva could be on the way out of Anfield.
It is not the first time Liverpool have been linked with the Switzerland international after his agent admitted earlier this month that there had been interest in his client from Merseyside.
Inler is just one of a number of reported January targets for Liverpool, with Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez and Swiss starlet Xherdan Shaqiri also mentioned as potential signings.
However, if Hodgson wants to add to his squad in the New Year – and a Liverpool takeover has not been completed – he will allegedly have to sell players before he can invest in fresh blood.
Lucas has reportedly been identified as surplus to requirements at Anfield, and former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is supposedly interested in taking the Brazilian to Inter Milan.
This could pave the way for a move for the £8 million-rated Inler, who will have to battle with summer signings Raul Mereiles and Christian Poulsen for a place in the Liverpool midfield.
