Wenger won't speculate over Fabregas fitness

Arsene Wenger maintains it is too soon to speculate how long Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will be sidelined by a hamstring problem.

The Gunners skipper suffered the injury as he netted a freak goal at Sunderland on Saturday, the ball kicked into him by Anton Ferdinand and it looped back into the goal.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online ahead of Tuesday's Carling Cup third-round tie at Tottenham, Wenger said: "We don't know yet. It is difficult to say. He has a hamstring problem but, I can't tell how long he will be out for."

The Arsenal boss added: "Any speculation would be wrong because we have not had the scan."

Spain international Fabregas, 23, had just been finding his form having returned late after reaching the World Cup final.

With Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner all still sidelined, the loss of another key man was another blow.

Fabregas would not have been included in the squad on Tuesday, with Wenger again set to use a combination of fringe and youth players in the Carling Cup.
