Southend manager Paul Sturrock is searching the loan market in a bid to add more strike power to his squad.
Despite the Shrimpers netting two goals at the weekend in their 3-2 loss to Morecambe, Sturrock needs more striking options but has to be realistic with his targets.
"I'm sure everyone walked away from the game with Morecambe on Saturday saying 'we need a striker, we need a striker' but they don't just grow on trees," he told the club's official website.
"You also look in the Conference and one team just sold a striker to another Conference club for £250,000 which is an expense we can't afford at this time.
"There used to be a bit of pinching from that level going on, but that isn't the case any more, so it's difficult."
