Rochdale boss Keith Hill could hand a debut to Oldham striker Deane Smalley for the home clash with Plymouth.

The 22-year-old has joined Dale on a one-month loan after he slipped down the pecking order at Boundary Park following a spell on the sidelines through injury.

Defender Scott Wiseman remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a stomach muscle problem but Hill has no other concerns ahead of the weekend.

Hill spent four years of his playing career with the Pilgrims and expects Peter Reid's men to push hard for promotion this season.

He said: "They are a very good side and have experience at a higher level and are probably expected by many to get promoted this season."

Plymouth boss Peter Reid could make changes to his defence for the trip.

Argyle have conceded 10 goals in the last five games and Reid is starting to lose patience.

Bondz N'Gala returns from his one match suspension and could replace Marcel Seip, who filled in at right-back in the 2-0 defeat to Brighton.

Full-back Lee Molyneux is also pushing for a recall after completing his ban as Argyle look for more consistency in defence.

Karl Duguid and Chris Clark are hopeful of starts in midfield as is Joe Mason, who came on at half-time in midweek.

Yala Bolasie was expected to return to training this week after an ankle injury and may be included in the squad.
