Dale Jennings was Tranmere's match-winner in a 1-0 success at Bristol Rovers, registering his first senior goal with a strike to savour.

The striker found the roof of the net with a blistering left-footed shot from 20 yards in first-half stoppage time.

It was a goal out of all context in a scrappy game. Tranmere's Peter Gulacsi was the busier goalkeeper, making saves from Jo Kuffour, John Akinde and Will Hoskins.

But the visitors should have gone in front in the 32nd minute when the unmarked Max Blanchard somehow missed his kick in front of an open goal following a right-wing corner.

Rovers were jeered off by their own fans, having failed to capitalise on a bright start which saw Kuffour's volley tipped over by Gulacsi.

Tranmere's first away win of the season in League One owed much to high work-rate and an organised defence in which centre-back Ian Goodison was outstanding.
